Rachel Ho
Hope
Watch this short film to see how Rachel has responded to the theme Seeing Differently.
Each porcelain paperclay envelope is embossed with the words from an Emily Dickinson poem;
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops – at all.
When we lose someone we love, often their words abide with us. Their letters, emails and texts become precious artefacts in our grief. I have sealed the folds and tears with gold lustre to express healing, forgiveness and reconciliation.
I created this body of work during lockdown and it seems to resonate with this time too. This season made us all see differently. Suddenly the words of our loved ones became a balm in our new worlds of self-isolation and separation. The gold speaks of our belonging and collective healing.
